The weather outside may be frightful, but it always helps to have a cozy retreat to escape to. If the cold never bothered you anyway, then bring on the snow, but an island girl like me loves a cozy cocoon to escape the winter blues.
If you are anything like me, and love to cozy up inside come winter, these amazing retreats by a few of my favorite designers will inspire you to create a cozy retreat in your home.
This cozy cocoon of a bedroom designed by Jeffrey Dungan, is all the reasons I need to stay in bed all winter.
The bed is tucked away in the very romantic alcove. The use of materials creates a really cozy and comfortable feeling. And of course, no cozy winter retreat is complete with a fur throw or blanket.
You have to leave the bedroom to eat sometime, and having a cozy breakfast nook complete with a fireplace makes that decision a lot easier. Here Jeffrey Dungan created this little nook by the window. Perfect for catching up on reading while sipping a cup of hot chocolate.
A light bright space, yet still cozy and warm is a welcomed escape in the middle of winter. This small sitting room designed by Alison Pickart is the perfect escape with that special someone. I love the textured wallpaper in the warm tone, and textured rug. With just enough seating for two to snuggle up, this room is a welcoming and romantic retreat.
I love how designer Alison Pickart incorporated a light bright palette in this traditional space. This living room/dining room feels fresh and yet still cozy.
There is nothing that says cozy retreat than a weekend getaway from the frigid temperatures. This beautiful modern 9000 sf lake house set in the Indiana Dunes, designed by Tom Stringer, is one couple's escape from the winter blues of Chicago.
With a cozy sitting area complete with a roaring fireplace, you can still enjoy the outdoors even when temperatures dip. Imagine being surrounded by nature like this.
The interior spaces are warm and inviting. The beautiful wood beams and stone fireplace invite you to stay awhile. They create a more intimate feel in this grand room.
The warm materials used in this cozy sitting room by Patrick Sutton feels like a mountain retreat, and invites you to cozy up by the fireplace
A fireplace in the bedroom overlooking the river, and the modern conveniences of a television means all day in bed when it's cold outside. This space that we designed a few years ago in Fulshear TX, is a great escape for our clients when the temperature drops.
This cozy living room by Ike Kligerman Barkley has to be my favorite space. It feels so authentic; respecting the age of the 1906 Adirondack style lodge in upstate NY, without looking old. I love the beautiful beam ceiling that just seems to welcome you to stay a while in the space
The large picture windows invite the outdoors in in these spaces designed by KAA Design Group.
There is something about this birch trees wallpaper on this feature wall that evokes the feeling of walking in a winter wonderland. Even kids' rooms can be a great escape from the winter blues.
So you can see that even when it is cold outside, you can create a warm and cozy retreat for yourself.
Here are a few ideas of some things you can do in your home to cozy things up just a bit
*Make your fireplace the focal point of the room by arranging a seating area close to it.
*Add decorative elements like wood logs, a winter garland and a piece of art to further emphasize the focal point
*Add color and texture to your spaces through rugs, pillows, slipcovers on chairs, and other accessories
*Sheepskin throws and faux fur blankets definitely add warmth
*Bring branches and greenery in
*Maximize natural light by peeling back the layers at your windows
*Create a cozy reading nook complete with throws and pillows
*Bring in seasonal smells with candles
