Wow! What a show! Maison and Objet is everything I imagined and more! It has been a designer's dream seeing some of the top trends in interior design, and speaking with the vendors who produce these items from all around the world.
It was my very first time attending the show, and although I have been to tons of trade shows in the design industry, I didn't know what to expect here.
Maison and Objet is held at Parc des Expositions de Paris Nord Villepinte. It consists of 8 different halls ranging from craft and gift items, home and fashion accessories to high-end and unique furniture. For me, halls 5-8 are where I mostly focused to acquire new furniture vendors. That is where some of the big names like Brabbu, Fendi, Koket, Hudson Valley had their booths - which were more like showrooms.
It was such a big event - thousands of vendors, and I don't think I saw 50% of them. But I saw enough to be totally inspired and rejuvenated with great new ideas and resources. And of course, true to form for any good designer visiting a top notch show like Maison et Objet, rounding up the top trends is a must.
So here are some of my favorites and top trends for Maison et Objet January 2019. Fair warning! This post will be very picture heavy, but then, that's what you want, isn't it? :-)
Ready to be inspired? Oui?
Color Trends
It is not surprising that emerald green and navy are holding on. That has been observed as a trend in the U.S. for a while too, and seems like these colors will be hanging around for a while. Black and white combinations, warm neutrals, blush, clay or burnt orange, yellow, and even purple were spotted as well
Soft Silhouettes On Upholstery
Curved upholstery was big at Maison et Objet. This is also a trend we have seen in the last year or so in the U.S. The curves are getting more and more detailed with tufting, brass accents, plinth bases
Retro Shapes
Exaggerated Arms On Upholstery
Brass Details
Bold Floral and Scenic Wallpaper
Ethnic/Primitive/Tribal
There was a whole section of the show with ethnic and tribal influences. I was so inspired. From art, photography to utensils. Here are just a few of my favorites
Selentine
I love selenite, and saw some of it at High Point in the Fall. The influence was strong here at Maison and Objet; mostly in light fixtures
Statement and Organic Forms In Lighting
The lighting here were more like works of art
Fur
My favorite category. Mongolian wool and faux fur were pretty big. From furnishings to rugs
Plates As Art
Classic With A Twist
Art Deco Influences and Unusual Shapes To Upholstery
Fanciful Nursery

Veronica
Veronica, you captured M&O as I remember it, ripe with 'luxe' and creativity. Brava! But, oh, the flamingo wallpaper in the Fanciful Nursery? As someone who lives in Florida where you can still find plastic ones, just too beautiful!
