Today I am excited to showcase another one of our amazing sponsors from the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) Designhounds Tour in Las Vegas. You've seen my trend report on the top 7 trends at KBIS, you've also seen Wellborn cabinet's beautiful and functional cabinetry, and a bit from the New American Home in Henderson Nevada sponsored by Caesarstone.
I also wrote a bit about the reason why we as designers follow the trends, so that we can bring you the latest and best to improve your lives. Thermador and Mr. Steam were two of the sponsors featured in that post.
If you missed out on any of those posts, feel free to go back and get caught up. Visiting a show like KBIS means that there is lots to showcase after the show.
I was so excited to see Thompson Traders as one of the stops on our tour. I have long admired their beautifully handcrafted products that you can find in some of the most luxurious kitchens in the country.
I think the entire group of Designhounds were excited to visit their booth. They have products that you don't just run out to the big box kitchen and bath warehouse to get. You get the best in customization and quality craftsmanship. We were in awe of the amazing products and finishes and of course, their new introductions.
Before I get to the amazing products that Thompson Traders makes, I have to tell you about the family who owns the company. They are the nicest and kindest people you will ever meet. It is all about quality craftsmanship and the human touch for the founder, Alejandra Thompson, her husband, daughter and son, who all work in the business.
Alejandra Ochoa de Thompson, founder and creative director of Thompson Traders, grew up in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, located in the bucolic countryside of west central Mexico.
Her love of copper started early as she remembers copper cooking tools and antique kitchen sinks at home. Even through frequent use, they were still elegant and beautiful - an incredible and lasting material that stands the test of time. This love evolved into what is now Thompson Traders, where her desire to bring her family's copper sink and all the memories it evoked to the United States.
Alejandra emigrated to the United States, and took the bold move with her husband Clifford and children to start Thompson's Traders back in 2003. With a company-owned factory in the renowned copper-crafting town of Santa Clara del Cobre, Thompson Traders brings the authentic handcrafted copper legacy of Mexico to American Homes, through products like range hoods, sinks and accessories for kitchen and baths.
The tools of the craft and time honored techniques have largely remained unchanged in the 500 year history, which adds to the charm and character of coppersmithing. And today, there are masters at work in the region, who carry on the same techniques in making one of a kind works of art for today's kitchens.
For Thompson Traders, the human touch is evident in every hand-crafted copper vessel, most notably in the dimples – each representing a single stroke of the coppersmith’s hammer. No two pieces are alike. And every piece preserves the coppersmithing legacy of Santa Clara del Cobre and supports the region – a vital mission to Thompson Traders today.
You can be assured of the quality, durability and beauty with each piece.
The following images are from Thompson Traders, and you can see how they add a special shine to each kitchen.
These are the details that takes a kitchen from standard to a unique and luxurious space. Each piece can be customized to your specifications, and ready within 10-12 weeks
One of my favorite finishes is their newest matte black finish introduced at KBIS 2019.
The Oaxaca Collection by Thompson Traders features the beautiful matte black finish. The collection takes its inspiration from Oaxaca, Mexico, a region known for its excellence in black clay pottery.
What is your favorite finish?
